|Recommended: NoIt’s gone downhill. — The rent goes up every year, without exception. The quality of the building and the newer tenants goes down. There seems to be many more transient tenants than long term residents. There are only two other apartments in our building rented by tenants that have been here longer than us. Noise, wall floor shaking, and door slams have become normal occurrences in the building, where they used to be almost nonexistent.
The garbage dumpster is almost always full and often has garbage and garbage bags spilling out of it and laying around it. One day, someone even left a complete toilet hanging out of the side of it I have to think this was apartment complex personnel that did this, as residents don’t normally change out the toilets.
The buildings themselves are dated and, though they are vacuumed weekly, not much else is done to maintain their inner appearances. The screens in the stairway windows are never cleaned. The lace curtains are yellowed and faded and look to be several decades old. There are multiple stains in the carpets on every landing.
One apartment in particular appeared to have the contents of an entire garage stored on it for several months, including several sets of car tires and boxes of junk. Now, it’s used to store a bicycle, which management stressed to us was absolutely forbidden in the rules, making our family store our bikes in an outbuilding on the other side of the complex.
The exterior doors of the building don’t look to be regularly cleaned, and there’s always cigarette butts hanging out of the ashtray next to the doorbells. Cobwebs and dead bugs surround the doorbell area itself very embarrassing when guests visit. The buildings did get new siding in the last year or so, but the complex charges extra if you want your exterior windows cleaned once a year.
The only consistently decent facet of the place is the complex’s manager, Sheri, who’s always pleasant to deal with, and seems genuinely sincere in her care for her tenants.
The maintenance staff has gone downhill as the more experienced members have retired or moved on, leaving care of the place to lesser experienced employees, who aren’t as well-rounded or efficient as their predecessors. They are friendly enough, although the current head of maintenance is quite rough around the edges. He often sounds and looks like he’s buzzed or intoxicated, but that may just be his normal mannerisms. I have watched him maneuver a bit recklessly around the complex on his golf cart and riding mower snow plow, though, so I have honestly questioned his sobriety, from time to time.
My biggest gripe is simply the upkeep of the buildings. As I said, the interiors are dim and dated. The carpets and runners are stained and worn. The walls and apartment doors haven’t been painted or changed in years. In the last week, our apartment has suddenly become infested with gnats or drain flies, and this is a first. We’ve always kept our sinks clean and taken our garbage out almost daily. Food is never left out. We’ve been here for several years now, and never had any kind of pest problem. Now, though, with 8 new tenants families in the building within the last year, it’s now a reality.
There are many things we love about this place. It’s proximity to the village and schools and parks and playgrounds is unparalleled. We’ve had many good neighbors here in the past, though most of them have moved on. Our newer neighbors seem less friendly, though I‘ll chalk this up to the pandemic, and hope that the newer people become more sociable when it passes.
Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your concerns about our community. Please know that you can call our office any time that something is bothering you. We'll gladly address it before it becomes a less than perfect review.
These are unique and unprecedented days. We share your opinion that COVID has changed a lot of what we are able to control in our lives and businesses. For some time the staff was directed to only respond to emergency maintenance requests. We are as eager as you are to get back to normal daily practices. The property has been recognized for years as the nicest in the Village and we are committed to retaining that title!
Please know that we are working with local law enforcement to deter nonresidents from dumping on our property. It has been happening more regularly than you would think. The toilet that you noted is an excellent example of this problem.
While it is quite common for people to come and go in an apartment community, especially with interest rates at historic lows, we understand your disappointment at seeing new neighbors come into the building. Rest assured that our screening criteria remains high and unacceptable behavior is addressed. (The door slamming will be resolved immediately if you will let us know who the violator is.)
Finally, we assure you that the service team on the property remains driven to provide the most excellent care available. Their devotion is evident by their longevity (did you the Maintenance Supervisor has been on site for over 18 years?). Sobriety needs not be a concern - ever.
We look forward to addressing any and all concerns that you have as soon as you bring them to our attention.
Stay safe,
Sheri

|Recommended: YesGreat apartments with a homey feel — Spacious and clean apartments. Little noise gets through from neighbors. Only complaint is floor was warped in some areas making furniture placement a bit tricky, but that is due to age of the buildings.
Thank you for your kind words. We all sag a little as we age! LOL
|Recommended: YesLovely Place — Quiet, respectful. Maintenance comes timely, keeps things running well, great communication about changes, needs, etc. I've signed on for another year Sometimes neighbors have too much fun outside on a weeknight, but they get along. Only a problem when windows are open, and isn't too often.
